Position Summary

The Exercise Science Division in the School of Health Sciences at Central Michigan University (CMU) is recruiting for a full-time, 9-month tenure-track position, beginning August 2021. The position is open rank depending on credentials. The undergraduate exercise science major is recently COAES accredited and the Exercise Physiology Masters program transitioned from a MA to MS degree in Fall 2017. The CMU School of Health Sciences offers undergraduate and graduate degrees and is located in The Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow College of Health Professions. Responsibilities: Faculty members are expected to demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching, student advising, university service and participate in graduate and undergraduate research. Teaching: Teach freshman through graduate courses in anatomy, biomechanics, exercise physiology. Research: Conduct research and scholarly endeavors that leads to securing extramural funding to support an ongoing research agenda; Direct undergraduate and graduate student research. Advising and Service: Advise undergraduate and graduate students. Involvement in campus and community service.

Required Qualifications

Earned doctorate in Anatomy, Biomechanics, Exercise Physiology, or related field (ABDs in the final stages of doctorate will also be considered) with demonstrated successful college teaching of gross anatomy experience (at the undergraduate and/or graduate level). Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.

Preferred Qualifications

xperience teaching human gross anatomy and anatomical dissection, biomechanics, exercise science, etc.; experience or demonstrated interest in securing extramural grants and contracts; post-doctoral experience; demonstrated research agenda in areas related to anatomy, biomechanics, etc., based on published works and/or external funding; evidence of involvement with professional associations and organizations, including ACSM; and demonstrated leadership skills. Interest in leadership opportunities within unit (e.g., Anatomy Lab Director); proficiency in use of technology; demonstrated commitment to diversity; and effective oral/written communication skills.

The School of Health Sciences offers programs in exercise and health science, public health education, and health care administration. The departmental faculty is dedicated to student-centered teaching, innovative delivery methodology, collaborative work projects, and applied research. The teaching space and labs are state of the art and extensive; research labs are available and include opportunities in biochemistry, metabolism, cell culture, applied sports performance, environmental physiology, body composition (DEXA), biomechanics, neuroscience, and animal research. The Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow College of Health Professions consists of five academic units (Department of Physical Education and Sport, Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, Department of Physical Therapy, the School of Health Sciences and the School of Rehabilitation and Medical Science).
