The Department of Anthropology at the University of Colorado Boulder invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor. This full time, 9-month position is funded by a strategic university program (the STAR program). Specifically, we seek a scholar who can contribute to the diversity and inclusion mission of our department, with an expertise in Evolutionary Genomics or a closely related field. As noted on the STAR program website, the university is “particularly interested in scholars with the potential to bring to their academic careers the critical perspective that comes from their non-traditional educational background or understanding of the experiences of groups historically underrepresented in higher education.” Many STEM disciplines have been historically lacking in diversity, and because Biological Anthropology is both a STEM and social science discipline, it is in the unique position to foster the development of scholars that straddle the boundaries between these two areas. We are interested in scholars conducting research in such diverse topics as the evolutionary history of our species, disease-host co-evolution (e.g., malaria), genetics of diseases more broadly (e.g. cancer), ancient DNA, paleoproteomics , the evolution of human adaptation (including high altitude, skin color, and lactose tolerance adaptations), nutrition, behavior, and forensics.

The applicant will be expected to have an active research program in the field of evolutionary genomics or closely related field, and to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in biological anthropology. The regular teaching commitment for department faculty is three courses per academic year.
