The AAPA is partnering with the Cleveland Museum of Natural History to provide two walking tours of Cleveland Buildings and their Stones and another behind the scenes tour at the Museum. This is a great way to get to know Cleveland beyond the conference hotel!
The department of Invertebrate Paleontology at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History will serve as your guide on this walking tour. Look for minerals and fossils in the rocks of Cleveland’s best-loved buildings in and around Public Square, including the Cuyahoga County Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument. These buildings are made with or contain a great variety of stone including Berea Sandstone from Ohio; limestone from Indiana and Italy; marble from Georgia; and granite from Texas and South Dakota. This tour provides an introduction to these stones and their mineral and fossil components, and explains the geologic setting of downtown Cleveland. Tour Maximum is 15 persons.

Immerse yourself in Ohio's natural environment during this behind the scenes tour of the Cleveland Museum of Natural History's all-new Perkins Wildlife Center & Woods Garden. Stroll through a wetlands community teeming with fish, turtles and frogs; peer directly into the aquatic world of playful North American river otters; and gain a new appreciation for the agility of bobcats and gray foxes as they traverse trailways directly overhead. Afterwards, visit the museum's archaeology collection and the Hamman-Todd Collection in Physical Anthropology. Admission to the museum included in the tour price. Tour Maximum is 30persons.
