Northeast Ohio Medical University: Postdoctoral Position Measuring leaping performance, evaluating its anatomical correlates, and reconsidering the importance of leaping in primate origins and early evolution
The Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology at Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED) invites applications for a postdoctoral research fellow position beginning February 1, 2021. The position will be awarded for two years, subject to review after one year. Salary is set at $50,004 per year with the 3% cost of living increase in the second year.
The postdoctoral fellow will work on an NSF funded project to investigate the biomechanics and evolution of leaping locomotion in primate. This project is a collaborative effort between Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED) (Jesse Young, PI) and Duke University (Doug Boyer, collaborative PI). The position will entail data collection at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo and the Duke University Primate Center, followed by laboratory analyses of kinematic data at the PI’s laboratory at NEOMED. The postdoctoral fellow should operate highly independently and may hold the responsibility of supervising lower-level project participants (e.g., high school, undergraduate, medical, and graduate students).
1. Ability to independently produce, analyze, and present scientific data (as evidenced by an existing publication record in peer-reviewed scientific journals) 2. Good oral communication skills (as evidenced by previous poster/podium presentations at professional scientific conferences) 3. Conceptual understanding of the primary research questions (see https://bit.ly/3lm438c for more detail) 4. Technical expertise collecting in vivo performance data from live animals (particularly primates). Working knowledge of 3D motion analysis, force platform analysis, and phylogenetic comparative methods would also be beneficial, though not required.
Professional qualifications: Ph. D. in Biological Anthropology, Ecology and Evolution, Organismal Biology, or an associated field
