NSF Modification of REU Site and Supplement Solicitation

by Ed Hagen last modified Jul 24, 2009 07:58 PM
A new revised Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) solicitation NSF 09-598 has been published by the National Science Foundation.

This replaces NSF 07-569 and applies to both REU Supplements and REU Site proposals for Physical Anthropology.  The link to the REU webpage is

The complete solicitation NSF 09-598 is accessible by clicking the number on the REU webpage.

For those of you interested in submitting REU Site proposals, this year's deadline for REU Site proposals is Thursday, October 22, 2009. In the fall of subsequent years, the deadline will be the fourth Wednesday in August.

Instructions for REU Supplements are included in this solicitation.  REU Supplements can either be as separate requests to supplement existing NSF senior awards or can be written into a new proposal at the time of submission.  Results from REU Supplement activities MUST be included as a separate section in the annual report for the associated award.  If students are to be engaged as technicians, then an REU Supplement is not appropriate and support should be budgeted as a line item "Undergraduate Students".  As described in the solicitation, REU supplements include both research and mentoring components.  At present the Physical Anthropology program does not have specific deadlines for REU Supplements.  If you have any questions about REU supplements, contact the NSF Program Officer for Physical Anthropology.
