The Department of Anthropology at Yale University invites applications for a post-doctoral researcher to join a collaborative project on primate evolutionary genetics. Specifically, the successful candidate will develop and implement methods for characterizing and comparing patterns of gene expression in primate tissues, especially primate hair and skin.

Start date:  negotiable; as early as June 1st, 2013

Duration: 12 months with possibility of extension

S/he will be part of the Yale Molecular Anthropology Lab (http://pantheon.yale.edu/~bb53/ymal.html), and will work closely with the Yale Center for Genome Analysis (http://ycga.yale.edu). Candidates should have a PhD in Anthropology, Genetics, Biology, Bioinformatics or a relevant discipline prior to the start date.  Strong preference will be given to candidates who have expertise/experience with computational approaches to analyzing large-scale sequence data sets (e.g. RNA-seq, genome sequencing, etc.)

The successful candidate will be directly involved in generating and analyzing comparative transcriptomic/genomic data for a variety of primates species to address questions regarding the adaptive evolution of primate traits.  Duties will include sample preparation, assembly and analysis of data, publication and presentation of results, and helping mentor Yale graduate and undergraduate students. The successful applicant will also be encouraged to explore new research directions of his/her choosing.

A complete application should include a current CV, statement of research interests and qualifications, and a list of three references (names, affiliations, email addresses).  Please direct inquiries to Dr. Brenda Bradley (brenda.bradley@yale.edu).

Application materials should be sent to brenda.bradley@yale.edu.  Review of applications will begin May 1st, although the position will remain open until filled.  The start date is negotiable, but the position could begin as early as June 1st 2013.  The initial appointment will be for 12 months, but the position could potentially be extended for an additional year.
