University of Cape Town Department of Archaeology Open Rank Faculty position

We invite applications at the rank of PROFESSOR / ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR / SENIOR LECTURER / LECTURER from suitably qualified persons, for appointment in early 2013 or as soon as possible thereafter. We seek an archaeologist with a research focus on palaeoenvironments and/or palaeodiets, who will strengthen the departmental focus on stable light isotopes. The successful candidate should add to the existing strengths of the Department and be able to contribute to its teaching programme. He or she will have a research programme in southern Africa, or be willing to develop a programme in this region.

Requirements include: 

At the Professor / Associate Professor level: 
* A PhD in the discipline of Archaeology 
* An excellent track record as a university teacher at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels 
* An internationally recognized research profile 
* Strong leadership qualities. 

At the Senior Lecturer / Lecturer level: 
* A PhD in the discipline of Archaeology 
* The appropriate level of university teaching experience 
* A record of research productivity and publication. 

Responsibilities include: 

* Teaching and developing undergraduate as well as postgraduate courses in the Department 
* Supervising honours and postgraduate students 
* Pursuing an active research program and raising required funding 
* Course convening, departmental and faculty administrative duties, 
* Senior appointments will also be expected to mentor junior members of staff, and to serve as Head of Department if required.
